Keeping Active and Working

Most of us are moving around much less than we used to and working from home has reduced our movements even further. Many of us haven’t been travelling to our workplaces like we used to. We are simply travelling the journey from our bedrooms, to the kitchen for hot drinks and snacks, and back to our chosen work space again, where we remain until we retire to the sofa in the evening. Of course there will be those who have strict exercise regimes, and those who choose to exercise indoors, even a simple walk around the block will help, but the reality is, things have changed.

You may now be suffering from lower back pain, or aching muscles from sitting in bad positions due to working from home, but there are many ways we can assist. Yes, correct ergonomic seating will help, but the human skeleton is not designed for prolonged sitting, and it has been proven that if you change your position throughout the day, it generally leads to a much healthier situation.

Sit-Stand, or height adjustable desks are a great way of doing this, either at home in your current home office, or in your main workplace when you return. We have various different options available, some are driven by electric motors others by crank handles. We may even be able to use your existing desktop and just supply a new frame.

What about if you could keep moving, and exercise whilst sitting and working? Fitness seating is a great way of doing this. We have this type of seating in the office ourselves and use them daily. An Exercise Ball Stool can improve your posture and balance, and also strengthen your core muscles. You could even sit on it when reading a book, or watching TV!

Aerofoil Design are happy to advise on how you can improve your movements whilst working. Visit our website or contact us so we can find a solution for you, and ultimately, improve your working life and your health.

New Office Project in Brighton (130)

Today we will take a look at one of the largest installations we’ve completed in recent years, undertaken in a few phases. Starting with the first floor in October 2019, continuing with the second floor early 2020 and finally reconfiguring some of the existing furniture on the third floor, as lockdown restrictions were eased and it was safe for our team to do so.

The design for this project evolved from an initial brief from the customer’s American architects and designers, based on plans from their other international offices. We interpreted this and presented several different product options. AJ took samples of the short-listed furniture to the site to showcase possible solutions for the customer and their architects to select from.

Assmann bench desks were chosen, which are electrically height adjustable, allowing the staff to alternate between sitting and standing to work. There were nearly 300 workstations installed, along with metal mobile pedestal drawer units fitted with bespoke seat cushions for those occasional visitors. The customer also evaluated 4 different office chairs before deciding on Wagner ergonomic seating. The vibrant colours for this project were based on the company’s corporate colours.

As well as furnishing the offices, the staff break-out room was also completed to the same high standard with a combination of dark grey café tables and metallic seating making the environment fresh and light, perfect for the staff to take time away from their desks.

The highlight of this job has to be the bespoke reception desk. We were sent an image of a similar desk from an overseas office, which the customer wanted to replicate here. Working with our specialist suppliers, we were able to provide this amazing, stylish reception desk, with a solid wood ‘surfboard’ counter top, created from multiple sections of different timbers. The users side features a height adjustable section and the reception front was completed with a wave design vinyl wrap to the architect’s design. A really spectacular image for visitors to be welcomed by when entering their building.

Stand up and Work…at least some of the time!

Sitting All Day Is Not Good For You….

Guess how many hours a day you spend sitting? Fewer than eight? More than 10? A recent survey found that many of us spend up to 12 hours a day sitting on our bottoms looking at computers or watching television. If you throw in the seven hours we spend sleeping then that adds up to a remarkable 19 hours a day being sedentary. It’s not good for us.

Aerofoil Design have always promoted the health benefits of exercising or standing when working, supplying height adjustable desks and exercise stools for example. We have recently expanded our range of Sit Stand desks, and can even fit an electric frame to your existing desktop.

Contact Jeff Nurse at Aerofoil Design to discuss this in more detail and to see how we can help.
